Wishful Winds

Wishful Winds - Screen Recording.mp4

This piece is one of my most treasured works yet. It is intended to be music for a prospective video game or movie and holds influence from adventurous game franchises, such as The Legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem, and other games that fall into similar genres. For this piece, I imagined the tale of a tragic hero on a journey, traversing through dangerous obstacles and facing setbacks and triumphs. The piece repeated switches back and forth between major and minor to reflect the setbacks and triumphs and ends in a desolate manner of a minor key to the tragic ending of the hero.

When putting this piece together, one thing I had in the back of my mind was the music written for Studio Ghibli movies. The music in these movies are always known to have some kind of distinct, iconic motif. For instance, in "Merry-Go-Round of Life" from Howl's Moving Castle, the theme song of Spirited Away, or the theme song of My Neighbor Totoro, there's always a distinct melodic motif that plays such that whenever you hear it elsewhere, you instantly think of the movie it's from, or of Studio Ghibli, at least. One of my goals for this piece was to create an iconic motif with that nature by having it repeat throughout the piece in many different variations.
