Midnight Thoughts

Midnight Thoughts - Screen Recording.mp4

This song is about a guy who stays up at midnight writing music because he can't sleep due to his regret from cheating on his girlfriend. It is meant to have more of a "soul" and solemn feel. It also uses a lot of synthesizers, which I challenged myself to do. This song took inspiration from a variety of songs, including Charlie Puth's "We Don't Talk Anymore", Animusic's "Starship Groove", and some other songs I don't remember the names of. Part of the bass line in the second chorus was also accidentally stolen from the Power Rangers's song. One thing in particular that I took inspiration from were some anime opening theme songs, which did a cool thing where they have the choruses and verses in different keys.

I promise don't relate to this song that much.

I swear I've never cheated on anyone.

I did write a lot of this during midnight tho.

Lyrics:

[Verse 1]

Playin’ these arpeggios

Right before I sleep

But who am I

To speak

Stayin’ up past bedtime

Waiting for a text

From my lover

For me

[Pre-Chorus 1]

Pondering the giant list of

Flaws that always keep me up in

Bed

Where I think about myself and always (dread)

Pondering the massive pond of

Memories where I claimed to be your

man

When I ca-an’t understand

[Chorus 1]

Thinkin’ 'bout the failure? of a boyfriend that I was

Thinkin' 'bout the ho-orrible things that I-I've done

Thinkin’ 'bout how e-easy it was to give you up

Thinkin' 'bout how after all this time

That it wasn't tru-ue love

[Verse 2]

Even if you came back to me and

Even if you decided to be—

—lieve in me once again

I only think that I would hurt you more instead

Even if you came back to me and

Even if you decided to be—

—lieve and gimme a chance

Don’t you know there’s nothing waiting at the end

[Pre-Chorus 2]

How many hours will I

Be here at my desk before I

Finally

Get some rest

How many more measures will I

Write before I lay down my

Head

And accept

[Chorus 2]

Thinkin’ 'bout the failure? of a boyfriend that I was

Thinkin' 'bout the ho-orrible things that I-I've done

Thinkin’ 'bout how e-easy it was to give you up

Thinkin' 'bout how after all this time

That I wa-asn't the one

[Bridge]

Now I'm starin' at the ceil-iing

Lying in my bed

(As these thousands of tho-o-o-oughts race through my head)

Gazing i-into the darkne-ess

Looking for a sign

(As your soft soothing vo-o-oice fills up my mind)

Thinkin' bout chyouryour hair

Thinking ‘bout my wretched affair

(Thinkin' 'bout chyouryour hair

Thinkin' 'bout my wretched affair)

Thinkin' 'bout chyouryour eyes

Thinking 'bout my heart full of lies

(Yeah I’m up at night

Thinkin’ thinkin’ thinkin’

Yeah I'm wide awake at midnight always

[Final Chorus]

Thinkin’ 'bout the failure? of a boyfriend that I was

Thinkin' 'bout the ho-orrible things that I-I've done

Thinkin’ 'bout how e-easy it was to give you up

Thinkin' 'bout how after all this time

That it wasn't tru-ue love

(Even if you came back to me and

Even if you decided to be—

—lieve in me once again

I only think that I would hurt you more instead

Even if you came back to me and

Even if you decided to be—

—lieve and gimme a chance

Don’t you know there’s nothing waiting at the end)

[Final Verse]

Playin’ these arpeggios

Right as my eyes begin to weep

And I fall asleep

[End of Song]
